Greenways & Lakes

Weaving through the Abacoa neighborhoods are the Greenways. These areas of preserved, natural Florida eco-systems are enhanced to provide habitat for wildlife. In particular, the endangered Florida Gopher Tortoise makes the Greenways home. The Greenways also provide storm water management for the entire community of Abacoa. Although these are the primary purposes, with trails and overlooks the Greenways also provide people opportunities to enjoy and study natural Florida without leaving their own backyards.

The Greenways are owned and maintained by the Northern Palm Beach County Improvement District. Biologist Sam Payton usually leads walks through the Greenways during the cooler months (September-April). Check the calendar to see when walks are scheduled.
