Meier Orthodontics, a premier provider of orthodontic treatment to children and adults located in Abacoa, hosted its 6th annual Year-End Teacher and Staff Appreciation Party at the Cruzan Rum Bar at Panama Hattie's off PGA Blvd.  The event is always held the last day of school for Palm Beach County; this year the date fell on Thursday, June 3rd.  Thousands of public and private school teachers from Jupiter, Tequesta and Palm Beach Gardens were invited to enjoy free food, beverages and music sponsored by Meier Orthodontics.  In addition, each teacher was given a draw string backpack with free summer coupons or discounts from local businesses eager to contribute to the event.  The event featured FREE giveaways from dozens of local merchants and service providers including: The Gardens Mall, PGA National, Lush Hair Salon, Bonefish Grille, Waters Edge Dermatology, My Gym Children's Gym, The Lane Spa, Hard Exercise Works and many more.  These give aways included 2 golf foursomes, professional photography, dinners, spa days, gift baskets of products, $200 Visa Gift Cards and more.  "It's the free giveaways that make this event fun for all the teachers and for our staff.  This year we invited all the businesses to run their own raffle booths.  The teachers walked down "raffle row" and entered their name in dozens of free drawings.  We had a nice representation of winners from different schools all over Jupiter and PBG," says Amy Carter, event planner for Meier Orthodontics.

For the first 2 year’s the event was hosted at the Square Grouper, however due to its increased popularity and massive growth, Meier Orthodontics had to change venue to accommodate all the teachers. "The Cruzan Rum Bar at Panama Hattie’s has been our host now for 4 years.  They have worked closely with us and with their food and beverage vendors to help us make this event better every year.  We are very grateful to them.  This year Panama Hattie's food vendor donated all the food for the event and Panama Hattie's donated all the labor and preparation for the food," says Carter.    “This year our invitation extended to the schools within our local community of Tequesta, Jupiter and Palm Beach Gardens and we had over 700 teachers in attendance.  Although there was a rain shower 2 hours into the event, very few people left.  Teachers were still dancing in the rain.  It was amazing.”

For the 3rd year, teachers were invited to nominate students for free orthodontic treatment.  The students chosen are presented this gift in the name of the teacher and school.   “It is always difficult to choose which children are most deserving, last year we picked four children for that reason”, said Dr. Scott Meier.  “The nominations that we received for the free orthodontic treatment, speak volumes about the level of commitment and caring that our teachers have for their students.  Delivering orthodontic treatment, in some cases, life-changing treatment, to someone who might not otherwise have the opportunity, is one thing.  To be able to deliver it in the name of a teacher is what really makes it special to me.”    It is not too late for teachers to nominate a student.  The deadline is August 31, 2010.  Selections are made based upon the child’s economic need, character and academics.  If you are a teacher of Jupiter/Tequesta/PBG and would like to nominate a student please write an essay to info@drmeierortho.com.  Please do not include the child’s name.  Only your name and contact information should your essay win.
